From the village of nothing much...
Let's get sleepy
Bedtime stories are like a soft landing spot for your mind. Rather than letting your brain race through the same thoughts youβve been chasing all day, we are taking a detour to a calm and comfy place. We tell the story twice and go a bit slower the second time. Each week, we support a meaningful non-profit organization. Explore the causes we've contributed to in past episodes.
Also, listen on β
The last warm days
Our story tonight is called βThe Last Warm Daysβ and itβs a story about enjoying the heat of summer before Autumn comes to take its place. Itβs also about sheets dried in the sun, the smell of tomato plants, and taking time to do as one likes.
In the kitchen, during a storm
Our story tonight is called βIn the kitchen, during a stormβ and itβs a story about doing something simple with great care. Itβs also about the cool breeze that comes with a storm, remembering a sweet time in your past and listening to records on a summer night.
A walk in the woods
Our story tonight is called "A walk in the woods" and itβs a story about getting far out into nature and trading in your usual cares for the sights and sounds of the countryside. Itβs also about the pleasures of wandering, whirlybirds falling to the forest floor and being alone.
Summer Vacation
Our story tonight is called "Summer Vacation" and itβs a story about the feeling of freedom and having lots of time ahead of you to do what you like. Itβs also about planning sweet things with someone special, the fresh harvest of the late summer and enjoying the sights along the way.
Summer nights
Our story tonight is called βSummer Nightsβ and itβs a story about a day at the lake with friends, a huge summer feast and sweet night air. Itβs also about the feeling of realizing when something is good and being happy about it.
Afternoon nap
Our story tonight is called βAfternoon napβ and itβs a story about the best kind of nap, the one you didnβt think you had time for. Itβs also about enjoying small luxuries and the serendipity of unexpected free time.
Early to yoga
Our story tonight is called βEarly to Yogaβ and itβs a story about the comfort of a quiet safe place. Itβs also about the feeling of privacy and the ease and serenity that come from someone showing you a little tenderness and affection.
Three Good Things
Our story tonight is called "Three Good Things" and itβs about reminding yourself of some of the simple happy moments that happen during the day. Sometimes good stuff slips through our brains without leaving much of a trace, while scary upsetting stuff gets stuck in there. So it helps to notice and highlight sweetness when it shows up, even if that just amounts to us saying to ourselves, βOh thatβs nice.β
The windows were open
story tonight is called βThe windows were openβ and itβs a story about a sunny summer day by the lake, solitude, and strawberries. Itβs also about the feeling of being free from a schedule and deadlines, and about doing some favorite things.
Some days, a bonus episode
Our story tonight is called "Some days" and is short, and not so much a story as just some reminders for when youβve had a crummy day, so weβre releasing it as a bonus episode.
Spring in the yard
Our story tonight is called βSpring in the Yardβ and itβs a story about getting outside at the end of a long winter, being in the fresh air and tidying things up. Itβs also about quiet companionship, dogs, and the last fire of the season.
Closing up shop
Our story tonight is called βClosing up shopβ and itβs a story about a book shop at the end of the day. Lev Grossman wrote in The Magicianβs Land βIt didnβt matter where you were, if you were in a room full of books you were at least halfway home.β If that feels true to you, then this story is for you. Beyond the friendliness of the company of books, this story is also about being in a safe place and looking out from it at oneβs leisure, and about the lovely feeling of anticipating something nice.
A block from home
Turn off the light, get comfortable and let us tell you a story. These are bedtime stories for grownups, in which nothing much happens, you feel good and then you fall asleep.
